Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Khaleidoscope Health Care is a SAMHSA-certified Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) in Jersey City, NJ, providing medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder, including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription painkiller addiction.

We offer methadone maintenance, buprenorphine (including Suboxone), and extended-release injectable naltrexone (Vivitrol), administered by licensed clinicians. Clients are supervised during dosing and throughout treatment, and MAT is combined with group and individual counseling rather than used alone.

MAT is not replacing one addiction with another. It is an FDA-approved, medically supervised treatment that helps reduce cravings, ease withdrawal symptoms, and lower overdose risk while allowing you to continue working, studying, and living at home. KHC also provides naloxone and overdose education.

KHC is licensed and certified by the State substance abuse agency, State Department of Health, The Joint Commission, SAMHSA, and the DEA.

What does a methadone clinic actually do?

A certified opioid treatment program does three things at once. It stabilizes your body with medication so cravings and withdrawal stop running your day. It gives you a counselor who knows your history and meets with you regularly. And it connects you to everything else that recovery actually requires — medical care, mental health treatment, help with housing or benefits, support for your family.

Methadone alone isn't treatment. Methadone plus a real clinical team is.

How it works here

You start with an intake and medical evaluation so we can find a dose that works for you specifically — not too low to help, not higher than you need. Early on, you'll come in daily and dose under supervision. As you stabilize, that changes. Take-home doses become possible. Visits get less frequent. The program adapts to where you are, not the other way around.

Alongside the medication, you'll meet with a primary counselor. That's someone who learns your situation and stays with you through it — not a different face every visit.

We also offer buprenorphine (Suboxone) and extended-release naltrexone (Vivitrol). Methadone isn't right for everyone, and part of our job is figuring out which medication fits your life.

We're a nonprofit, which means we're not deciding who to treat based on what they can pay. We accept Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, and self-pay, with sliding scale options. Cost is a conversation, not a barrier.

We serve people who are working full time, people who are unemployed, people who are housed and people who aren't. We serve pregnant and postpartum patients. We serve people living with HIV. We serve people sent here by drug court. We serve people who've been to a clinic before and it didn't stick — and we specialize in exactly that.

Spanish-speaking staff are on site. Our doors are at 75 Harrison Avenue and 127 Lafayette Street, both in Jersey City, both reachable without a car.

What we won't do

We won't rush you through. We won't make you feel like a case number. We won't judge you for how you got here, how many times you've tried, or what your last clinic told you.

Getting on methadone is a medical decision, not a moral one. We treat it that way.
